“We turn not older with years but newer every day.” Emily Dickinson
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
President's Message
Happy Birthday to me. I have joined the age of Medicare. This birthday made me think that I have lived more than half my life. I have been thinking, “What does it mean to be my age?” I have posed this question to some of our members, whose ages range from 60-95+. All of us are aging every day, but in different ways and with a different mindset. Those in our age group may experience physical, cognitive and socio-economic concerns. There are many factors that affect the aging process that are both in and out of our control. Here are some of the AIM members’ thoughts on “What does it mean to be my age?” Thank you to all who contributed.
“At 86 I am happy with the balance in my life. I am fortunate to live in the inclusive town of Montclair. It is such a positive place to be in. A few years ago, my children shamed me into writing my life story. It made me realize how much I have to be grateful for. Certainly, I have some cringe worthy memories. But the modest book project helped me see how the patterns in my life now make perfect sense to me. I am grateful for the convenience of the internet to keep family and friends connected. I also appreciate young neighbors on the one hand, and a circle of friends in AIM on the other. In general, I realize how very fortunate I am to be living here in Montclair.”
